Why Use A Tutor?

When I was 16, I attended my final Parent’s Evening of secondary school. All of my teachers agreed that I would be fine in my exams and that I’d gain a good set of results. The only teacher who disagreed was my Maths teacher who said that there was a question mark over whether or not I would achieve my C grade. A grade I definitely needed because, in today’s world, no employer or college or university will accept an applicant without those crucial GCSEs in English and Maths.

Now, no matter how hard I tried in Maths, I was just not naturally able in it. In particular, I could not, for the life of me, get my head around simultaneous equations. I spent most of Year 11 feeling really stressed out about them. In fact, I spent most of Year 11 feeling very worried about Maths as a whole. So, when my parents heard my teacher say that I may not pass Maths, they kindly decided to get me a tutor. He was a lovely, softly-spoken man who, working with me on a one-to-one basis, was able to offer me a greater level of support than my teacher could offer whilst I was part of a class of thirty. He even got me to understand simultaneous equations (although, don’t ask me to explain them now!!) and, when I sat my Maths GCSE exam, I felt confident and prepared. In the end, I walked away with a B grade – something which, frankly, felt miraculous to me – after being predicted a possible D.

Try as we might, teachers are often spread very thinly in classrooms; with class sizes ever-increasing, the problem is nation-wide and this means that we are limited with how much attention we can give any one student at any one time. It’s tough. Tutoring enables a student who is really struggling, just like I was, to gain some extra support and make progress in an environment where they are able to be the complete focus. It also means that the lessons can be personalised to their individual needs and pace. In short, tutoring can support the teaching your child is receiving in school. Treagus Tutoring is a service which is willing to work with your child’s teacher to ensure that synchronicity is achieved.

Whilst we offer services for a wide range of ages, it is arguable that GCSE tutoring is the most crucial. At a time when so much pressure is placed on such young shoulders, tutoring can help to support your child in their GCSE study. Much like I experienced, tutoring can help your child to make faster progress and to increase their confidence in English.
